About Us

“Gratitude is the wine for the soul.
Go on. Get drunk.”

— Rumi

For us, gratitude is a way of life. We believe it’s a quality that contributes to a healthier and happier life, stronger relationships, and yes—even growing delicious grapes that turn into great wines. Here at Grateful Lane Vineyards, our goal is simple: to create meaningful and memorable artisan wines that are full of flavor, balance, and depth—and that spark joy. Wines that are food-friendly, delicious to drink, and a delight to share with others.

While premium wines have long flourished around us in Santa Ynez, Malibu, and Santa Barbara, world-class wine from Camarillo has remained a bit off the map—until now. Our Sauvignon Blanc and Syrah grapes are 100% single-vineyard grown, and our unique coastal microclimate and distinctive soils allow us to craft wines with remarkable character—wines that awaken your taste buds and please the soul.

It turns out others are noticing too. Our wines are earning recognition and medals—9 Gold and 9 Silver—at the world’s premier American and international competitions. We’re honored by the awards—and even more excited to share our wines with you.

We invite you to experience Grateful Lane wines for yourself.

Open a bottle.
Take a sip.
Discover the delight.
Enjoy the moment.

Cheers!

Sheri & David

Our Vines

Grateful Lane Vineyards lies in an idyllic hillside in Camarillo, CA surrounded on all four sides by a luscious golf course, sitting 600 feet above the valley floor, looking out over the breathtaking expanse of farmland below. We are blessed with generous amounts of warming sunshine, yet cooled by the breezes and fog from Pacific Ocean. The soils here are a mix of clay loam and volcanic derivatives.

A vineyard is a constant study in patience and perspective. From the first bud break in spring to the final pour of a matured vintage, winemaking is an exercise in looking past the uncertainties of the present to realize the potential of the future.

Quality is never an accident; it is the result of a vision held steady through every season. Whether in the cellar or in life, the best results come to those who trade doubt for the steady work of craftsmanship.#inspiration #inspirationalquotes #californiavibes #californiawine #motivation ... A vineyard is a cons

There's a real biochemical reason cheese and wine are magic together. 🍷

It comes down to fat.Red wine tannins bind to proteins and fats in your mouth. On an empty palate, that binding pulls at your saliva and creates a drying, sometimes harsh sensation — the classic "puckering" feeling of a tannic wine.Cheese coats your mouth in fat and protein before the wine arrives. The tannins now have something to bind to before they reach your palate. The result: the wine tastes smoother and rounder. The cheese tastes richer. Neither one actually changed. The interaction did.Two thousand years of pairing wisdom, explained by a bit of chemistry. ✨Pour something red from Grateful Lane. Grab something creamy. For a hundred years, textbooks taught that the tongue has separate zones — sweet at the tip, salty on the sides, bitter at the back. 🍷

It's not true.Every taste bud on your tongue can detect every taste. The "tongue map" was a mistranslation of a 1901 German paper. Scientists corrected it in the 1970s. But it still shows up in wine books, cookbooks, and dinner-party wisdom to this day.So the next time someone tells you to swirl your wine over the "sweet zone" of your tongue, you can smile and pour yourself another glass. ✨The whole tongue is tasting the whole wine, all at once.#gratefullane #gratefullanevineyards #winefact #wineinfo #californiawinery ... When we pour the Artist Series Syrah, we're looking for a pairing that matches its depth. Syrah has a beautiful tension—it’s dark and fruity, but incredibly savory and peppery. It demands food with equal weight.

Here is our ultimate, foolproof pairing menu for your next bottle:The Warm-Up: A rich, deeply caramelized French Onion Soup or a sprawling charcuterie board. The salt and fat soften the tannins perfectly. The Main Event: Slow-simmered Tagliatelle with Meat Ragù or beautifully seared lamb chops. The Earthy Sides: Wild mushrooms and charred asparagus. (Pro tip: charring the asparagus tames its bitterness and highlights the smoky notes in the wine). The Finish: A handful of fresh blueberries and a square of rich dark chocolate to pull out the dark fruit notes in the glass. You don't need a complicated menu to create an unforgettable meal; you just need the right pairings. Your palate is not the same all day. 🍷

Taste sensitivity follows your body's circadian rhythm — sharpest in the morning, dulling as the day goes on.It's why sommeliers do their serious tasting between 10 a.m. and noon, when the senses are at their peak. It's also why a wine that wowed you at a Sunday tasting can feel different when you open it at 9 p.m. on a Tuesday. The wine hasn't changed. A small piece of geology most people who drink Syrah never hear about. 🌿

Syrah, the dark and savory grape behind some of the world's most celebrated red wines, was born in the Northern Rhône Valley of France. Côte-Rôtie. Hermitage. Cornas. The names every wine lover knows.Three things made the Rhône ideal for the grape:Volcanic-influenced soils — mineral-rich and well-drained.A cool marine influence — preserving acidity in the fruit.Steep, sun-facing slopes — building depth and sugar through long afternoons. Now look at our hillside in Camarillo.Clay loam over volcanic minerals. A Pacific marine breeze that arrives every afternoon. A south-facing slope at 600 feet above the valley floor. When we planted Syrah here, we weren't following a trend. We were following the geology. The land told us what to grow. We just listened. #californiawine #california #gratefullane #gratefullanevineyards ... See MoreSee Less

But behind every medal is something quieter. The hundreds of small decisions that go into a single vintage. The early mornings walking the rows. The careful pruning, the patient waiting, the gut calls made in the dark hours of harvest. This vineyard was planted long before us, but we didn't take on this hillside hoping for awards. The long stem on a wine glass is not for elegance. It's for temperature.Your hand runs at about 98°F. A white wine should be served at 50°F, a red around 60 to 65°F. There is a specific kind of bravery in saying "yes" to a dream before you can see the whole map. At Grateful Lane, we believe that the most meaningful chapters of our lives start with that one, often quiet, decision to follow a spark.

The grapes in your wine and the grapes in your fruit bowl are not the same grapes. 🌿

It's easy to assume they're interchangeable. They're not. They've been bred for almost opposite purposes.Table grapes are bred for snacking. Larger, plumper berries. Thin skins. Often seedless. Mild acidity. About 17 to 19 percent sugar.Wine grapes are bred for fermentation. Small berries, almost the size of a blueberry. Thick skins that carry the tannins, color, and structure wine needs. High acidity. About 24 to 26 percent sugar.Try eating a wine grape straight off the vine and you'd find it intense, tart, with a tough skin that catches you off guard. The secret is all in the skin!

While it might be surprising, the juice of almost all wine grapes—including the ones we grow here in Camarillo—is actually clear. The rich reds, purples, and magentas you love come entirely from the grape skins during a process called maceration. Here’s the breakdown:The Soak: After crushing, the clear juice sits with the dark skins. The alcohol and heat from fermentation act as a "key," unlocking the pigments (called anthocyanins) and pulling them into the wine.Timing & Artistry: To get that perfect pink glow for our Rosé, we carefully manage the influence of the skins. Whether it’s a 100% Rosé of Syrah with just a few hours of skin contact, or a bright blend of our Sauvignon Blanc kissed by a touch of Syrah, the goal is always a delicate balance of color and crispness. For our Syrah, however, the juice and skins stay together for weeks to achieve that signature deep, bold color and rich complexity.More Than a Pretty Face: Those skins don’t just provide color; they are also where the wine gets its heart—its tannins and complex aromas!Next time you swirl your glass, take a look at the color and remember: it’s the "soul" of the skin you’re tasting. 🍷#winetime #winefacts #syrah #rosewinelover #rosewine #winecolor #gratefullane ...
